III. Potential Projects for Development
and Services offered to the clientele:
1) Mud Crab Larval Rearing Research Project
The Mud Crab larval rearing research
project is focused on the study of crab let production. The project will aim to
produce sufficient supply of quality crab let in the province. Any development
regarding its commercial production will serve as laboratory venue for the sons
and daughters of fisher folks taking DFT and help our fisher folks taking DFT
culture and help our fisher folks engage on crab culture farming as their
additional income by providing them the crablets for grow out..
2) Training Cum Production in Sea Ranching of Sea Urchin, Giant
Clams and Octopus.
This Project will occupy ten (10) hectares of
coastal area in Day-asan, Surigao City with sea urchins, giants clams and
octupus rear in one area. This area will server as fish sanctuary where no one
is allowed to fish within the periphery. As the population of fish increases
within the area, fish that will go out from the sanctuary will be expected
through establishment of the said project.
3) Pilot Fish Processing Project
The project is on going which focused on fish
drying of any potential fish species for commercial production using. Mechanical
drier is alternative equipment when atmospheric condition is not favorable for
sun drying. Private investors on fish drying are invited to use the mechanical
drier with corresponding payment.
IV. Proposed Research Studies and Projects:
1) Fecundity and Hatching Efficiency of Scylla serraya, Scylla
olivacea Scylla paramamosian and tranquibarica.
This
proposed study will be an initial step in handling mud crab larvae by
determining the number of produced egg and its hatching efficiency on one female
mid crab.
2) Assesment of Mantis
Shrimp in the province of Surigao del Norte.
This
proposed study will further know the existing species of mantis, Lysosquilla
sp., shrimp[ in the province, length-weight relationship and its geographical
locations in the province in terms of abundance.
3) Mantis Shrimp,
Lysosquilla sp., Larval Research Project.
This
proposed study will deal on larval rearing development for mantis shrimp
producing quality seed stocks for grow out.
4) Deep Sea Fishing
Project
The
project will serve as venue for Diploma in Fishery Technology students major in
Marine Fisheries/Fish Capture and income generating enterprise fishing of the
college. This should be equipped with different fishing paraphemalia for
commercial fishing.
5) Smoke Fish
The
proposed project will be intended for smoke fish and this is one of the method
of preserving fish from spoilage. The collage will study the precise protocol on
smoked fish utilizing different species. The success of the project will help
fisher folks to cater their caught fish into value adding products.
