History

The Surigao  del Norte College of Agricuture and Technology Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries is strategically located at Day-asan, Surigao City where vast mangrove forest, corals and sea grass are found. Prior to the establishment, agreement was made between SNCAT and LGU - Barangay Officials of Day-asan, Surigao CIty. The agreement stated that he said Barangay will delineate fifty seven (57) hectares mangrove forest for laboratory venue and a resolution to the LGU - mangrove forest for the laboratory venue and a resolution to the LGU - Surigao City for the Establishment of SNCAT-IMSF in Day-asan, Surigao City. Then the satellite campus, SNCAT-IMSF was officially founded through the initiative of Vocational School Superintendent II, WILFREDO C. TIU, Ph.D., of SNCAT and the effort of the Local Government Unit - Surigao City headed by City Mayo ROLAND S. SERING on February 11, 1998 with the city ordinance numbered 138. Series of 1999.

        The satellite campus is mandated to offer technical vocational educations and training in the field of fisheries and other related courses. On June, 1998, the program was started by offering Secondary Vocational Fisheries Curriculum (SVFC) with fifty three (53) students, two (2) Academic Teachers and one (1) Vocational Instructor. School site, classroom buildings and related facilities which was supposed  to be provided by the LGU - Surigao City as stated in the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) were not yet realized but the Barangay Officials offered thier two (2) stories temporary Multi-purpose building for 1st year SCFC student classroom while negotiation on school site and related facilities was still going on.

           On school year 2001-2002, school site and one concrete classroom building were donated by the LGU - Surigao City and one (1) additional (2) stories temporary building was made by the college on the same year. Before the opening of the class for 2002-20003, two (2) classrooms were established; a One - story Three - classroom building donated by the Government of Japan under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GAGP), one - classroom and one processing building from the local Government Unit - Surigao City.

            On the other hand, Trifocalization policy was implemented in the Philippine Education System emphasizing the three educational systems of which all secondary programs must be given to the department of Education (DepEd), all technical and vocational programs for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and all degree programs for the commission on Higher Education was successfully approved by the General Appropriation Act of 2002, secondary program of SNCAT - IMSF was formally turned over to DepEd and the said college is no offering technical and vocational education in the field of Fisheries and other related courses.
