Welcome to my first madness, o brave peasant. Read on and be afraid.... |
My raving this evening is on behalf of all oppressed peoples everywhere!! Specifically, those in the Spanish-speaking minority (although that isn't going to last very long...if you think there are more of us every day, you're right!) I wanted to post some lyrics to a few songs by Shakira, as I realized what a horrid oversight this had been on my part. So, I did a little work, found the lyrics, printed them, prepared myself to type (I will have a future rant on the lack of cut-and-paste capabilities of geocities....), and discovered that I was being opressed!! PageBuilder does not have Spanish-language capabilities!! No accent marks, no tildes (that's the squiggly thing above the "n," for those grossly uneducated peasants who may be reading this). And no, it is not possible to write in Spanish without them! They are not mere decoration, nor are they simple punctuation notations which can be overlooked (albeit those who think that the internet is a comma-free zone also piss the hell out of me). People, welcome to the twenty-first century! Lots of us speak Spanish! Get used to it!! I would now normally proceed to curse in Spanish, but there are a few factors preventing me from this: 1) The inability to write in Spanish in this program (see above) 2) The fact that it is entirely likely that my parents will see this. I know my father knows the words, I'm fairly sure my mother does...no need to offend/shock. Love you Mom! Love you Dad! 3) The sad truth that while my grasp of the technicalities of the Spanish language is improving daily...weekly...I'm working on it!....my grasp of the coarser side of the language is pitifully thin (lessons, padre?) and I would not be able to convey the extent of my ire in this situation as thoroughly as I would be able to in English. For small, everyday use, my Spanish vulgarities are in fine form. However, I have not as yet had need to test them in a marathon format, and so I feel unprepared for this. So, to proceed with the necessary crudeness in English.... <inhales deep breath>...oh wait, I have to go catch the bus...ah the bus, the subject of my next rant. I feel that madness creeping on me already.... |
