Date: The foundation stone was laid on 16th June 1877 and the consecration took place on 25th March 1879. The spire wasn't part of the original building but was added in 1908 and at 191 feet is a landmark which can be seen for miles around.
Closed: The church closed during the 1990s and the bells were taken to York Minster. The building is currently being restored for an alternative use by NW Heritage Trust.
Other information: The site on which the church is built was given by W. Farrer Ecroyd JP who together with his brother Edward gave £2000 each towards the building cost of £10,000. The design was by Messrs Waddington & son of Burnley In 1933 a chiming peel of 11 bells were added at a cost of £1450, the tenor bell weighed 28 cwt.
