Denomination: Church of England

 

Date: The church has a Norman tower & the nave was constructed using stones from Sawley Abbey.  Restored in 1872 & 1925

 

Formerly in the West Riding of Yorkshire

 

The grave of Francis Duckworth is in the churchyard, he was the composer of the hymn tune Rimmington  (“Jesus shall reign where’er the sun) which is inscribed on his grave. Francis was born in nearby Rimmington in 1862 and his most famous tune was first heard in Colne in 1904, where he was organist at the Albert Rd Methodist church

 

 

In Loving memory of Elizabeth, wife of Francis Duckworth of Colne

Who died November 27th 1901, Aged 37 years

Also Margaret their daughter who entered into rest, February 5th 1917 Aged 28 years

Also of the above Francis Duckworth, composer of the hymn tune Rimmington, Died August 16th 1941, Aged 78 years
