Searching for the Eldridge Roots
This is my husbands line and when I started researching the name we knew virtually nothing about the family's history.
The only facts we knew were:
![]() |
my husbands grandmother was Lilian Kate Eldridge (later Stevens) born 1897. |
![]() |
She supposedly had two brothers who were killed in WW1 one of whom was called Arthur and the other possibly Alfred. |
![]() |
my father-in-law was born and brought up in Mill Lane in the village of Colnbrook, Buckinghamshire. |
The first step we took was to visit the Commonwealth War Graves site where we found an Arthur Eldridge, a driver with the Royal Field Artillery, killed in 1918 aged 33, also stated were his parents and their address of Mill Lane, Colnbrook!!!!
We were unable to find Alfred.
By obtaining various birth and marriage certificates we eventually traced the family back to the early 1800s in the Heathrow area of Middlesex, west London.
