BACK TO T Hartley PAST |
Hartleys, Hartleys everywhere!!
This quote from the margins of the book "Portrait of Wycollar" by John Bentley seems very apt when researching the name in the Colne area of East Lancashire. He also adds:-
"The Hartley family in Trawden Forest are a genealogist's nightmare. Prolific in the extreme they spread throughout the Forest and into surrounding areas."
My Hartleys were at Gibclough Head in the 1830s when most of William and Marys children were baptised at the Church Road Wesleyan Church in Colne.
By the 1841 census William is not with the family who are now living at Nooke. I assume William had died although as yet I haven't found his burial.
In 1851 census Mary is a widow and she is living in Lenches, an area the family remained in until the 1890s.
Do my Hartleys sound familiar?
