BACK TO T Starkie PAST |
The Starkie family originated from the village of Higham, which lies abut 2 miles north of Padiham, near Burnley in Lancashire.
At present there doesn't seem to be any connection with the more wealthy, landowning Starkies of nearby Huntroyd Hall.
The earliest Starkie which I have found and confirmed 'as mine' is Thomas born in 1745, a farmer who lived at Heights Farm, Higham.
During the 1890s many family members moved to the nearby towns, presumably for work in the mills.
My great Grandfather Thomas Edward Starkie moved to Nelson in 1891 and became a director of Barden Mill near Burnley.
