Susan Beverly, MLA

I won my first writing award in 2nd grade for an essay about the flag. In 4th grade, I wrote my first short story about my baby brother's illness. My poetry debuted in my high school literary magazine and continued through my undergraduate (Towson University) and graduate (Western Maryland College) degrees with concentrations in education, art, music, writing, and psychology (Masters in Liberal Arts). I've taught meditation, writing, creativity, education, and The Artist's Way at Carroll Community College, Hagerstown Community College and Wor-Wic Community College. I perform my poetry worldwide, as well as my music, and show my visual art in galleries. I have published a dozen books of poetry, prose, and instruction, and a spoken word CD. I love nature, animals, philosophy, mysticism, Reiki, Hawaiian Lomi Lomi and all genres of writing. My short stories, plays and poems have won prizes, festivals, slams, and other competitions. I am a native of Baltimore County, Maryland and now live near the Atlantic in a lovely cottage in Ocean Pines, Maryland (visitors encouraged!). I am the owner of Sweetspot Arts and Wellness LLC (founded 1984), providing lessons in art, piano, voice, guitar, writing, editing, publishing, performance, and the healing arts. I teach workshops, talks, classes and retreats on a variety of topics and am active in myriad arts and healing groups, as well as a volunteer speaker for hospitals, libraries, senior centers, and other non-profits. My doctoral thesis will explore the relationship between the arts, psychology, and healing.
