Eight months finds Jakob "singing" and crawling upright at a brisk pace. Just this week, he began sitting upright by himself. He will stand if you hold him, and can sit himself back down again without falling, but doesn't pull himself up yet. On the down side, for two months, Jake has had troubles eating. He vomits up most of what he eats, with some days being far worse than others. He has stopped gaining weight as he should, and is very thin, with shadows often under his eyes. Docs have found nothing to cause this, so we are being sent to Stanford's Children's Hospital the week of June 21st to have a pediatric gastroenterologist see him. Jake is currently taking Reglan and Zantac, and the worst of the problem seems to be behind us (knock on wood), but I'd like to see him be able to eat normal sized portions again, and put on a few pounds. Autumn has been "trench crawling" for over a month...she was the first to "crawl", but still hasn't mastered the upright, on all fours version. However, what she lacks in crawling she makes up for in standing. She pulls up on anything. Now, if she could ONLY find a way to let herself down without falling and banging her head! Autumn was also the first to sit herself upright. Her "centerfold pose" was a precursor to pushing herself fully into an upright sitting position. She has also discovered the guitar, and likes to tap and pluck the strings of any left within her reach. Autumn can talk, but currently seems to prefer shrieking at an ear piercing level. It is funny how a set of wombmates can be so different tempermentally!
Summer vacation is here, and I am looking forward to spending lots of time with the babies. Grandparents will be visiting within a week (pictures will be forthcoming). After that, it will be just Jakob, Autumn, and I for the next two months. We intend to make use of a community baby playtime room, take many walks to the neighborhood store, and explore the beach.
THE GRANDPARENT PICTURES ARE HERE!
