It is nearly impossible to believe that the babies are now one year old! Both Autumn and Jakob continue to amaze and charm everyone that comes into their lives. Autumn's current obsession is books. She loves to pick up a book, turn the pages, point to pictures, and pretend to read - in a language that none of us understand, but a language rich in sound and expression! She also has a tendency to hold the book upside down in her lap as she faces you to read aloud - an amusing artifact she picked up in imitation of my reading the book upside down so that both she and her brother can see the pictures! She also brings her books to bed with her at night - completely clearing the top bookshelf of any books she can reach, and crying if one gets stuck in the transition through the crib bars. Autumn's words of the month are book and cow. Anything animal is a cow. We are trying to narrow down the understanding a bit, but for now, bunnies, chickens, and sheep all fall under the heading of cow, as well as the cows themselves. Jakob continues his fascination with hardware. for his birthday, he jointly received several new toys that were immediate successes - lock boxes and hardware puzzles. He can be found studying and manipulating these, as well as the beads on his new rollercoaster maze. Jakie also does well with standing alone, and I am not sure if it is going to be Jake or Autumn that is the first to take off walking. Jake practices his walking on the corner sectional, going back and forth. Autumn prefers to use the new birthday wagon as a walker. When the wagon is not available, she uses her high chair, pushing it around the kitchen to get where she wants to go. Jake, on the other hand, likes to sit in the high chair and rock it across the room. YIKES!
