SIX MONTHS OLD!

Where does the time go??? Jakob and Autumn are now 1/2 year old! We decided it was time to take an official portrait with Mommy, and here are the results:

Jakob and Autumn try out their new swing.

Now that they are 6 months old, both babies are babbling, cooing, "singing", and vocalizing profusely. Just this week, they have truly discovered one another, and giggle with glee as they catch each other's eye and react to each other's responses. They roll about the room like whirling dervishes, and any hopes of keeping them playing on a nice clean blanket have been tossed out forever. Jakob looks like he is about to crawl, pulling both legs up, then scooting forward with his upper body. Autumn, on the other hand, practices her centerfold pose. She lays on one side, with her left leg draped over her right, and her hand on her hip. It is the funniest thing to see! I am hoping to catch it on camera one of these days!

WE began solid foods for the second time during my spring break in early April. Jakob totally cooperates, but Autumn, as has always been the case with her and food, makes work of it. She is coming to appreciate fruits, but any other source of nourishment is a challenge. Jake wolfs down anything put in front of him! So far, we have tried oatmeal, rice cereal, apples, plums, bananas, squash, sweet potatoes, carrots (believe it or not, Autumn loves carrots), green beans, and pears.

I have decided that we are going to start trying a schedule, as I need to be better rested for work. Babies are put down around 8-9 every night, and I have had to become firm with Autumn, who wants to be held all day and night. If she protests, I'll pat her back in bed, but not pick her back up. So far, so good - knock on wood. Jakob is easy to put to bed and usually falls asleep while being held, or within a few moments of hitting the sheets.
