Ten months finds me getting ready to go back to work full time, and finds Autumn and Jakob growing and diverging. Jake has continued to have troubles with reflux, and is now exhibiting athetosis - a writhing of the fingers and arms. I have spent the summer seeing specialists - pediatric gastroenterologists at Stanford and pediatric neurologists in Medford. Nobody seems to know for sure what is going on, but the symptoms are worsening, so I have enrolled Jakie in Early Intervention, where we can get a team together to figure out what is going on. My greatest fear is athetoid palsy, but it could also be the medications. I have stopped the Reglan, and have put in a request to have erythromycin substituted. My next concern is Jakob losing weight again, or retaining permanent neurological issues from the medication. All of this is weighing heavily on me as I also prepare to return to work full time next week.

Autumn is quite a talker. She has an ever growing vocabulary, with the most frequent words being mama, baba (bottle), kitty cat, doggie, brother, okay, fishy, and Dale. She chatters aloud in full conversation mode, although we often aren't sure what she is saying. At ten months, she loves to be read to, claps toys together to make rhythms, and enjoys Baby Einstein videos. Jakob will sit for a book IF it has flaps that reveal hidden parts of the pictures. Funny what kids like, no? He is a speed crawler, loves to pose for the camera, and when feeling well, still charms the ladies with his engaging smile. He's always up for a game of "I'm gonna get you" and giggles as you chase him (or he chases you) around the house. Jake was the first to get teeth at 9 months, and now has 3 bottom teeth. Autumn is currently cutting her 2nd tooth at ten months.

Both babies have outgrown their carseats, and have graduated to toddler safety seats, but will still remain turned around backwards until they are a year old. Occasionally, we travel to the Family Resource Center, where Jakob and Autumn can explore their wonderful children's playroom. Back at home, we are converting the third bedroom into a playroom ourselves. Sarah and I are creating a Harry Potter mural on one wall. The other wall has been "half bricked" with sponge painting, and is home to a magic mirror! Once the project is finished, I'll try to post pictures. My old Wonder Horse, along with various larger physical activity toys are situated in the room.
