This is the historic Farnsworth Civil War House built in 1810
We toured the battlefields in a bus like pictured to the left. We had a awesome guide that had that way about him of taking you back in time. The statues and monuments are an awesome sight to see.
This is the Jennie Wade House. We toured and learned about the 21 yr old who was killed by a stray bullet and became the only civilian to die in the battle which cost 51,000 casualties. The original bed and clock are still in the home and so is the bullet hole that entered the home and killed Jennie.
Here we toured the Lincoln Train Museum. We experienced the train ride and conversation that took place as President Lincoln traveled to Gettysburg to dedicate the National Cemetery.
The Highlight Of Our Trip
The above house still shows the markings of bullet holes from the war. It's been authentically restored into dining rooms. We dined by candlelight among original decor and enjoyed a variety of period speciality fare including game pie, pumpkin fritters, chicken pot pie, grilled chicken, fresh garden salad, sweet watermelon rind and corn relish made from a 100 year old recipe according to the menu and Jennie Wade bread served with Adams County apple butter. There are no words to describe how delicious it all was. A touch of "back then" music played in the background as we dined, laughed and had a wonderful time. I myself experienced something I never had before and still swear to this day that I caught the sight of a cats tail just before it went under my chair and under the table. After searching under our table, I found no cat. It was then I had to ask the kind waitress if there was a cat roaming in the house, because I truly felt I had seen the tail. She stated "no", and it was then that I began to wonder if maybe I had not seen the glimpse of a cats ghost that may have lived there years ago. Other members of the family have seen and felt things of this nature, but it was a first for me. And what gave the early evening a perfect touch was as Dee Dee and I were signing the guest book, the light went out for just a second or two, then came back on. It was then I was more than ready to go, but a visit and a dinner and experience I shall never forget.
This is what our table looked like. Again, there are no words to describe how delicious the food was.
