This teapot was made in November by using Yi Xing (pronounced
ee-sheeng) techniques taught by the artist Gu Mei-Qun.
The clay body was made with Black Mountain clay (high fire), and is in the shape
of a simple cylinder. Unlike the others, this pot lacks embellishments.
Black Mountain is not a self-glazing clay, so a tenmoku glaze was brushed onto the pot to give it a darker finish. Tenmoku is an oxide-laden glaze, and depending on the thickness, can appear from clear to dark black.
Please note that this pot uses Yi Xing techniques, but uses different materials and takes liberties on the traditional forms.
