10 - Hariyaalee Teej
[Shraavn Maas - 3rd Day of Shukla Paksh]

This day is celebrated by the married women whose husbands are alive. Women cook pooree and poodaa and observe fast till  they cook food. Then they worship Gangaur*, take out a certain amount of food to give it to elders as Baayanaa.

The previous day, they apply Hina on their palms and on the day of Teej, they dress in their best attires, wear lots of jewelry. visit their friends and other peoples houses. Most houses have swings for this occasion so they swing in several houses and sing songs.

In fact the whole Shraavan Maas is the month of women's festivals - first comes Naag Panchamee, then comes this Hariyalee Teej and in the end comes Rakshaa-bandhan.

So this whole month they spend in their parent's house. If they are in their parent's house, their in-laws send new clothes, Sindoor and sweets to them, but if they are in their in-laws house their parents or brothers send this to them. This is for their happy married life with the wish that they should always remain Suhaagin till death.

(Means Maataa Paarvatee Jee. She is the wife of Lord Shiva. All Suhaagin (married women)  worship Maataa Paarvatee and get blessings of being Suhaagin throughout of their life)
