15 - Sharad
Poornimaa [Kuaar or Aashwin Maas - Full Moon Day of Shukla Paksh]
This is a special Full Moon day. It is believed that on this night Moon casts her all the rays on the Earth and thus rains Nectar (Amrit). And Moon's rays are very beneficial to the people, so this day they make some white color dishes, normally made with milk and yogurt, rice tapioca (Kheer) and keep it overnight so that all the Nectar (Amrit) comes in the Kheer. Next day the whole family eats that Kheer as Prasaad. This is also said that if you put the thread in the needle in this night, your eye-sight improves. So people sit under the moonlight for as long as they can sit so that they can benefit from this Moon's rays for longer time, and try to put the thread in the needle to improve their eye sight. Because in North India at this time it is a bit cold, they cannot sit for a long time. On this day tens of thousands of people take a dip in the Holy River Ganges too.
