Raamaayan

Shree Raaam Charit Maanas is written by Shree Tulasee Daas Jee. It is called Maanas also. It has seven Kaand (chapters):

(1) Baal Kaand - It contains all the prayers, reasons for Raam Avataar, Raam Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughn Janm, their childhood, going to Maharshi Vishwaamitra Jee's Ashram for the security of his Yagya,

(2) Ayodhyaa Kaand - It contains the marriage of Raam, Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughn with Seetaa, Urmilaa, Maandavee and Shrutkeerti respectively; Their coming back to Ayodhyaa, Dasharath wants to declare Raam as King of Ayodhyaa, Kaikeyee puts obstacle in that and demands her long-owed two boons at this time - Bharat's Raaj Tilak and Raam's exile for 14 years, Dasharath tries his best for not sending Raam in exile but Kaikeyee does not agree for that; Raam, Seetaa and Lakshman's Van Gaman for 14 years; King Dasharath's death, Meeting with Kevat and Kevat takes them across Gangaa, Bharat's going to Van to bring Raam back but returns only with his Charan Paadukaa (slippers) only.

(3)  Aranya Kaand - Description of life in Van, Meeting with many Rishi, Living in Dandak Van for some time, Raavan's sister Shoorpankhaa's coming there and Lakshman cuts her nose and ears, Raavan's brothers Khar and Dooshan's Vadh, Raavan's insult by Shoorpankhaa on these affairs, Raavan's requesting to Maareech to appear as a golden deer in front of Seetaa, Maareech appears as golden deer before Seetaa, Raam goes to hunt it and kills it, Maareech calls Lakshman's name before dying in Raam's voice, Hearing Lakshman's name Seetaa sends Lakshman for Raam's help, In the meantime Raavan abducts Seetaa to his Lankaa. In between Jataayu tries to stop Raavan doing this but get almost killed, Raam's quick return to His Kutiyaa and meeting Lakshman on the way, Seetaa is not in Her Kutiyaa, Start searching Seetaa, Meet Jataayu, Jataayu tells that Raavan has taken His Seetaa and dies.

(4)  Kishkindhaa Kaand - In search of Seetaa, Raam comes to Rishyamook Parvat, Meets Hanumaan and Vaanar Raaj Sugreev there, Friendship with Sugreev, Sugreev's brother Baali's Vadh, Sugreev's Raaj Tilak, Sugreev's efforts for search for Seetaa, Sending Hanumaan in south direction to search Seetaa, On the way meeting with a woman who tells Seetaa's whereabouts, Meeting with Jaambvant who also tells Seetaa's whereabouts.

(5)  Sundar Kaand - Hanumaan Jee's crossing of sea, Meeting with Vibheeshan, Vibheeshan tells Seetaa's whereabouts, Meeting with Seetaa, Raavan's youngest son Akshaya Kumaar Vadh, Meghanaad ties Hanumaan Jee in Brahmpaash, Meeting with Raavan, Lankaa Dahan, Coming back to main land, While returning to Rishyamook Parvat feeding on fruits from Madhu Van, Raam's preparation of journey to the sea, Promise of Sea to help Raam to build a bridge on sea.

(6)  Lankaa Kaand - Building the bridge, Raavan Vadh, Vibheeshana's Raaj Tilak, Seetaa's coming back, Seetaa's Agni Pareekshaa, their coming back to Ayodhyaa in Pushpak Vimaan with all Vaanar,

(7)  Uttar Kaand - Ram, Seetaa and Lakshman return to Ayodhyaa, Raam's Raaj Tilak, Prayers by many Devtaa, Kaagbhushundi's life story, Many ethical and spiritual teachings
