DIARY

3rd September (Diary according to Daniel Hiles)

Oh my god! Is that sunshine I see!! Get metro all the way across town to Wiener Prater with massive Ferris wheel built in 1873, in James Bond Film but a bit too pricey to go on for us budget travellers. Head off to St.Stephens cathedral, bit un-impressed by facades as surrounded closely by shops. Inside was better but mass was in progress so we made a hasty retreat. Took route to go past state opera, again not quite photoworthy but mainly due to location. Really starting to like Vienna, it's a beautiful city-really clean and there is finally some good weather although there could do with being a little more for us hip young things to do! Headed back near museums quarter and had bread/cheese lunch after internet stop. We had seen Belvedere Palace on postcards, so head off to find it. Its pretty hot by this point so need ice cream on return journey-our short look round turned into a 6 ½ hour walk!! We then chill out at hostel and plan rest of route, we feel like we've 'done' Vienna now so will leave for Budapest in the morning. We decide to head back to Centimeter III as we saw large beer tap that Liz especially fancies. Forgot how far away it was and it took us well over an hour to walk there. City hall is beautifully lit up and there is some kind of open air concert playing 'I will survive'. Opt for same as last night but when Tim goes for Holzfallernockerl I can't resist-dumplings with cheese, onion, ham etc fried. We get 3 litre beer tower and food arrives-Holy Crap!!! I appear to have an axe full of food. Tastes really good but portions are bit big and we are defeated (I am only one to finish meal in 2 nights). Liz had pasta version of my dish-Schinkenfleckerl and King recreates Putenschnitzel feast.Head home for final epic walk through Vienna and make it back in 1 hour flat-Ich habe 1 pair of very tired legs!!
