4th September (Diary according to Daniel Hiles)

Up early (6:45) get ready to go to Budapest but schoolboy error on my part means we set off to Sudbahnhof only to find that our train leaves from Westbahnhof so get off after 2 stops and head back. Dan is not the most poular person at the moment-especially with Liz. Arrive in Budapest on time, pestered endlessly about accomodation-stuck to place we had booked in. Took (wrong!!!) no. 73 bus miles in wrong direction-found out- came all way back again-get crazy red trolley bus thing (correct no. 73), we are having a good day going in the wrong direction. Eventually get to hostel, app[eraence is not all that great but turns out to be really quite homely-we actually get served breakfast for the first time! Sort our stuff out and head off around Pest. Make way to Danube and across to Buda, looks good but imagine it will look better at night. Stop for beer in Buda-except Mike who goes home early to sleep. We wander round more, buy postcards and check out about boat cruise up the Danube. Find out that it is ½ price for students and if poss we should do it tonight while the weather looks o.k. Head back to wake up King and head off for food. Found cheap(ish) retaurant along sidestreet as, surprise surprise, it's raining again! Dubious about boat trip if it keeps raining. We looked to get much smaller portions than the locals-also what we did get was pretty minging but Tim liked his liver. When we leave the weather looks better plus we still have time to make cruise. Get good seat, cruise only costs £4.50. Well worth it as Budapest looks fantastic at night when lit up, we also get free glass of beer and champagne.
