9th September (Diary according to Daniel Hiles)

Get up and have nicest brekkie so far-all you can eat!! Decide we may as well have day trip to Lake Bled. Get ready and head to bus station in thunderstorm and torrential rain! Bus only £3, arrive in, whats this? Sunshine! Lake looks fantastic and scenery is breathtaking if you ignore a couple of concrete apartment blocks near ski slope. While weather is looking bright we decide to take out rowing boat for an hour, no sooner have we cast off than it clouds over and the wind picks up. Afetr mikes pathetic attempt at rowing (Liz was better!) me and Tim get us to island, not much there so after quick scout round we head back. Arrive back warmer and more peckish (if a little wetter!) so have pasta lunch (spag bol and ravioli bolognese). Followed by cake for the boys. Set off for walk around lake but a little deceived by the distance and it takes longer than we expect. Just miss our coach back to Ljubljana, Liz quizzes an old Slovenian guy as to whether he is our bus. They turn out to be some Slovenian SAGA holiday outing and they agree to take us back to Ljubljana for free! Our first hitchhiking experience. After a couple of unsure moments we are indeed dropped in Ljunljana, but quite a way from station-that, however, is no problem for us seasoned hikers!! Call off on way back for some multi Dan drink and King has haribo sweets. Back to hotel, then after quick change we head into town, not that hungry after big lunch, Liz and I have minestrone (veg overload!) and guys have venison goulash, pretty tired so head back to hotel.
