DIARY

13th September (Diary according to Daniel Hiles)

Mike up first to try and find paper to get info on U.S terrorist attacks. While we go find breakfast we check out walking tours, found 'Enjoy Rome', 25,000 lire for 3 hour walk (£8) bit more pricey than previous tours but figure we may miss out if we don't take it. Head back to hotel and out on metro to Colloseum to meet tour at midday-colloseum looks awe-inspiring. Tour is really good- see colloseum, Roman forum, monument to 1st king of Italy, fascist headquarters, Pantheon and end in Piazza Navara-former racetrack. This city really is too amazing to describe in words. After tour we grab folded pizza thing (Liz-pasta) and head to river overlooking Vatican and St.Peters basilica. Following advice of guidebook we climb monument to king Victor Emmanuelle for view-fantastic! Equestrian statue with man who has 3 metre tache and Liz and I almost get arrested for 'petting'! We then went back to colloseum to go inside-get discount for living in EU?! Really good inside but need bit of imagination to imagine how it used to be-see area below floor where gladiators and animals used to be. Then check out exhibition with colloseum history and artifacts/helmets from real gladiators. It's been a hot day and bodys are feeling the strain. Head back to hotel to change and head out to Chinese restaurant-not best ever but pretty good for £4-although it sent Tim queer for a while! Mike goes off to internet café and the 3 of us go for beer at Trevi fountain, really nice but pestered by rose sellers. Back to hotel-we have moved rooms to one with working t.v so check out a bit of Italian tele.
