16th September (Diary according to Daniel Hiles)

Up early by wake up call expecting to wait for shower-breakfast but pleasantly surprised to have no wait, bread roll/bowl of coffee for breakfast and we set off to station and luckily the train is on time. Got in unreserved carriage easily, could have had 4 seats each! Whilst rest of train was packed. Passed some dramatic alpine scenery and finally saw SNOW! Temperature noticeably drops and while we sit in t-shirts people get on the train wearing thermals and big jackets. Forgot size of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) we pass it for over an hour and arrive in Geneva on time. Find hostel but dorms are full (thanks to busabout coach arriving later) so rooms cost a bit more but King is keen to stay as Grand Prix is about to start. They sell reduced price swiss army knives-me thinks I'll be getting one of those later! While Mike watches formula 1 the rest of us go on an explore, only to find it's raining, wait inside and figure out route-rain eases a bit and off we go. Arrive at lake only to find that the jet l'eau is turned off although by the time we get up to it a little swiss chap has fixed it. Start to remember bits from we were here in year 8. Starts drizzling again but we carry on walking and see some really nice areas. We then head back scoping out knives as we go. Geneva is all well and nice but there is not as much to see as we are used to so we call in a pub and get swiss beer for 50p a glass on special offer! After a couple we head back to pick up King. Shower, change and set off again, we decide to check out another hostel in hope that it is cheaper, it's a YHA one and is indeed cheaper so we book in and return to our hostel ('city hostel') to cancel next night. Head off in search of food and find semi take-away/buffet place with fairly cheap food, although this is relative as Geneva is tres cher! Then back to bar as rain pours down, after a few beers we go see jet l'eau whilst it is illuminated, all my photos so far have been of the jet. Still raining and we return to the bar until midnight then home.
