Various walks for all abilities; Carnarvon Stroll (1 mile) Through the Coal Garden which was built as a reminder of the areas coal mining past. The headstock wheels being taken from the nearby Silverhill Colliery. Eventually returning to the Visitors Centre. Teversal Village Circular (2 miles) A walk through the village of Teversal passing the church of St Katherine which dates back to the twelfth century, Teversal Manor which dates to 1764 by Copy Wood then back again to the Visitor Centre. Silverhill Wood Walk ( 2-4 miles) Going through the original entrance to Teversal Colliery (locally known as Butcherwood) pasisng small ponds and areas planted with a varienty of trees and shrubs, with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside, up into the Derbyshire Hills and Hardwick Hall. The sumit of the site is the highest point in Nottinghamshire at 205 meters and again returning to the Visitor Centre. Sculpture Trail (4 miles) Wood carvings, metal sculptures and mosaics adorn this beautiful trail ending once again back at the visitor centre. Brierley Forest Walk (4-5 miles) A walk through Brierley Forest and around Brierley Waters with picnic benches and the Brierley Forest Visitor centre then retracing the path back to Teversal Visitor Centre. Nature Trail (5 miles) A variety of local wildlife can be seen while walking this trail, butterflys, woodpeckers, pigeon, lapwing, partridges, and if you are especially lucky then a fox may be seen crossing the fields. With damp shaded conditions ideal for the speckled wood butterfly, although in a recent survey 22 species of butterflies were seen. With wild flowers along this trail visitors are asked to stick the footpath. The Lady Chatterley Trail (6 miles)This walk will take you through the landscape which inspired D.H.Lawrence's most famous book Lady Chatterley's Lover. Lady Spencers Walk (9 miles) Heading towards Pleasley Colliery , along the Rowthorne Trail and into Hardwick Park and by Hardwick Hall, the following the signs back to the visitor centre through Lady Spencer Wood. Three Village Walk (10 miles) Passing through Norwood then by the Rowthorne trail to Rowthorne Village, through to Ault Hucknall the again Hardwick Park and Hall back through Lady Spencers Wood and to Teversal. Pleasley Vale Walk (12 miles)Starting at Pleasley Colliery which is under restoration and evidence of the water power used to drive the Pleasley Mills remains. by the Nags Head pub and along the river. A long walk but with seats and picnic tables along the way. Easy Access (4 miles) Accessible to all wheelchairs, pushchairs and powered scotters. There is a wheelchair for free use at the Vitior Centre. Numerous seats along the walk for rests with no gradients only two large kisisng gates. |
