050401 » the evolution of pickgirl

listening to | powderfinger \ the blue ep
feeling | tired, happy i'm not at uni and at the same time worried about what work i may me missing

today is the national day of action at universities across australia. i'm not exactly sure if my lecture was cancelled or not, but i figured i may as well not go and give myself a little extra time to do the assignment i had due today, but had not started. when they ask why i did not hand it in on time i will explain that i assumed my lecture was cancelled and thus did not go to uni. yay.

i've decided to watch monty python's flying circus in breaks at uni. two friends and i went over to the library (yes, usually by 4th year an engineer has learnt where the library is) and watched 2 episodes. god i love stupid humour.

speaking of uni, i won bar trivia the other day. free mark of cain ticket! woohoo! i'm ashamed to say that my winning point was knowing in what year murphy brown was first aired. for those interested, it was 1988. ;)

i'm currently listening to a burnt copy of powderfinger's first ep. my buddy JB - who is a champ - sent it to me. i'm not one of the fortunate people to own the original. i'm also not stupid enough to pay over $500 for it on ebay. anyways, it is tops. love it. i miss old powdy. i want them to rock out again. enough with this pissy shit already. i want guitar solos!

i saw iOTA last night. my god! i have never seen so many ferals in my life! it was really funny though, because here they were thinking they were all being 'different,' but the whole lot of them looked the same. they all knew each other too. it was frightening. all these girls who had way too many layers of clothing on and looked homeless. why would a person deliberately try to look like they don't wash and have no home?

the support act, chi, were very funky. a little bit d.i.g. a little bit george. the female singer was gorgeous and had really cool eye makeup. hehe. the guitarist had cool floppy hair. :D

iOTA's name for me for the past 3-4 years has been 'pickgirl' for the necklace of guitar picks i used to wear around my neck. however, last night when i bumped into him before the gig he called me pickwoman. i inquired why i was now known as pickwoman. he stated that i was all grown up now and that he thought it was appropriate to call me 'woman' instead of 'girl.' he later introduced me to the audience and explained the story of the evolution of pickgirl. *embarassing*
