260701 » the most sexual non-sexual experience of my life
listening to | tool \ lateralus
feeling | more tired than i have ever been before
last
night was so incredible that i really cannot do
justice to tool when attempting to describe the
emotions i was going through.
i finished uni early and met corey at the tanner
bar. we then made the two and a half hour train
trip to sydney. nearly everyone on the train were
also headed to the tool gig. it was almost like
we were going to the big day out because of the
atmosphere and the number of people wearing band
t-shirts.
when we got to sydney, corey and i met up with
petey and headed into china town. woo! i finally
met petey! :D
things that impress me muchly: foodcourts
that have bars
yes, that is right, the foodcourt we went to in
china town had a bar! beer in a footcourt! i was
so happy to see that. meanwhile, only 5 minutes
previous, i had said i was not going to drink
anything that night. but how can one pass up a
beer at a foodcourt?! it isn't something you see
every day. well, not where i come from at any
rate.
then to the entertainment center...
there were people absolutely everywhere. i was
very surprised by the number of *re0w* worthy
guys! there was this one kinda goth boi, he was
wearing red and black (and no makeup, thank god),
and was just mesmerising. i couldn't help staring
at him. never mind the fact that his girlfriend
was sitting on his lap.
there was also an inordinate number of tool
t-shirts borne by punters. don't they know that
is a huuuuuuuge coolicity faux pas?? while i am
on the topic of wearing a band shirt of the band
you are going to see, can i ask when and why
did become such a faux pas? who decided that it
was such an uncool thing to do? if anyone has any
theories, email me.
finally, cam arrived with his bro in law john
(who forgot his ticket, which caused them to have
to turn back and get it and be 45mins late in
meeting us), his mate neil, and our tickets. we
chatted, i was made fun of, then we headed
inside.
we took our seats, and soon after the lights were
dimmed. it was only 9pm, so i was assuming the
band about to come on was the support act, the
cosmic psychos. however, the
lateralus images on the big
screen confused me a little. then the opening
strains of "the grudge" poured from the
speakers and i realised that was maynard shrouded
in darkness on stage.
the next two and a quater hours flew by. tool
played material from all three of their
incredible albums. the sound was immense! the
bass was mind blowing! and maynard became the
most sexual person in the world, to me.
the stage was very dark for the duration of the show. not
once was a spotlight shone on maynard. there was
a giant projector screen behind the stage, and a
smaller screen directly behind maynard. this
smaller screen meant that for the entire gig we
could see maynard's silhouette. it was amazing.
it really added a dynamic effect to the show and
helped you to concentrate on the music.
concentrate on the music until maynard came out
after intermission wearing little black pvc
shorts, that is.
omg *reeeeeeeeoooooooow*
i swear he looked naked at times. i actually
exclaimed this out loud during one particularly
intense moment when maynard was slowly moving his
pelvis back and forth in time with the music. it
was the most sexual non-sex related thing i have
ever seen in my life. i was quivering on the
inside. i am becoming toey just thinking about it
now.
maynard is definitely not what i would call a
particularly good looking guy, but that voice,
combined with that music, combined with the way
he moves, was just too much for me to handle. i
so wanted to just jump up on stage and molest the
man. *reow* my god, i think i should stop now
before i orgasm all over this journal entry.
i know i say this after heaps of gigs i go to,
but it may well have been the best gig i have
been to. i know that being in a more intimate
venue would have given the gig a greater
atmosphere, but the sound in the entertainment
center was incredible. i was shocked that in a
venue of that size, the sound quality could be so
clear and definite. and the bass. *spine tingles*
a friend commented that he thought the sound was
better than cd quality, and i have to say i
agree.
after being blown away by the might that is tool,
we had to line up for 40 minutes to get our bags
from the cloak check. why the hell they had only one
cloak check for like 14,000 people, i do not know. and
why is it called a cloak check? i only saw a
couple of people wearing cloaks at the gig, and
they were all goth.
by the time we collected our bags and went
downstairs, the merchandise was all packed away!
i was (and am still) soooooooo not happy! i wanted
needed a tool t-shirt. even if they were $50! if
anyone sees them overseas, and wants to buy me a
girls tour shirt, you are more than welcome to.
;)
so, we started to make our merry way to the train
station - me dodging traffic and people as i
spoke excitedly and gesticulated too much while i
was on the phone to (adelaide) pete.
upon arriving at the train station we found out
that another train would not be going to
newcastle for over an hour and a half. for some
stupid reason there was no trains between 11.47
and 1.47. it was then that i spied a guy from uni
who i only know as being very obsessed with mike
patton. we bonded over mr bungle and
fantomas at a uni gig earlier this year. i
can't for the life of me remember his name.
at any rate, after petey left to catch his bus,
corey, myself, mike patton obsession guy and mike
patton obsession guy's friend (who i shall refer
to as kyuss obsession guy) headed off to the
bridie o'riley's irish pub for a few beers to
kill the time until our train (once again, so much
for not drinking).
i shall explain the reason i call kyuss obsession
guy, kyuss obsession guy.
last year kyuss obsession guy's girlfriend had a
baby and he was tossing up over whether to call
the child maynard (for maynard james keenan from
tool. der!) or kyuss. he went for kyuss. the
child's middle name is maynard. i'm glad he went
for kyuss - i think that is an awesome name.
maynard is a pretty geeky name, it has too many
bad connotations (for starters that awful aussie
comedian named maynard).
we got kicked out of the pub a little after 1am
and made our way back to the station. the train
was loaded with tool fans once again. on our
carriage there was a really annoyingly loud air
conditioning vent that sounded like an old video
machine that rewinds really loudly.
i tried to sleep most of the way home, but it was
extremely difficult as the train was freezing,
and the seats horribly uncomfortable.
i got home at 5.30am and then had to wake up at
7.30am to suffer 7 hours straight of uni lectures
from 9am until 4pm. somehow, i did not fall
asleep. well, not for more than a few seconds,
anyway, and i am sure the lecturer did not
notice. i hope.
i imbibed way too much caffeine.
and it was all worth it times a billion!
tool seriously rock my world. *gets another
vision of maynard in those black hotpants* very
*reow* indeed.
