Cycads & More Natives
Finally the dirt for my new gardens
arrived from the quarry down the road. Sand trucks pass my garden
on the way to the quarry. I got four truckloads of coffee rock
sand which I shaped into two gardens. The first garden is near
the Sheraton in front of the forest. It is planted with cycads.
The second garden is alonside the shed. The feature plant is a
grass tree but I also planted banksias, waratahs, grevilleas,
paper daisies and kangaroo paws. At first the garden mounds look
like "piles of dirt" but they eventually start looking
more like gardens.
Mulch hay was being made next door
so I hailed the truck on its way past and bought 40 bales. The
forest of 22 tiny trees was the first to be thickly mulched -
that should slow down the grass growth.
