Let it Rain

It basically hasn't rained since Shelley was born at the end of August. She is definitely not impressed with all of the water and refuses to walk across muddy ground. But now the grass doesn't crunch and is actually starting to grow so the cows have decent food.

And rain it did - for the first week or so of February. My lily ponds went from mud to overflowing overnight and the drain filled up and flowed. The water lilies died off but I restocked the pond with 8 new varieties from the aquarium at South West Rocks.

Before & After the Rain

Everything Blooming

All of the newly planted cycads & natives have greeted the rain with growth spurts and the flannel flowers are blooming. Flannel flowers have the most glorious texture - just like flannel as the name suggests. The grass tree sat in a pot for months waiting for its garden to arrive but as soon as it was planted, it came to life and produced two spears. The bottlebrush are blooming as are the yellow paper daisies that I pinched from the headland at Scotts Head.
