| South West Rocks is near the mouth of the Macleay River. Since the flood in March the Macleay River has been closed. This had a large effect on the small tourist town of South West Rocks where fishing is a major commercial and recreational activity. In July the river was finally reopened so there was a weekend River Festival to celebrate. | It culminated on Sunday at Back Creek. There was an Aboriginal smoking ceremony, didgeridoo playing and storytelling. The fire brigade and the chocolate wheel put in an appearance and there were poetry readings by the local poet. The commercial fishos put on a free fish barbeque and then there was a light show over the creek. |
