The
Torch in Kempsey
What a wonderful day for Kempsey.
The atmosphere was fantastic as the torch made its way through
the streets to the park. The didgeridoo played a welcome and the
torch was cleansed by smoke. Bill Morris lit Kempsey's community
cauldron.
The entertainment included:
* Poetry by Allan Wade
* Sing 2001 Choir - school children
* Murramar dancers - traditional
aboriginal dancing including a welcome dance
* South Kempsey Primary School
children performing the Serpent Dance
* Slow Combustion Band
And there were smiles all round.
The torchbearers beamed with pride, the spectators cheered with
enthusiasm and there was a party atmosphere. Never have I seen
so many happy locals.
The torch then made its way through
the cheering crowd carried by Walter Constable to continue its
journey to Port Macquarie.
