03/11/2001: Big Sunday?
I hope so. The surf4ever crew assembles in Blankenberge. Not to miss. I don't know if I will get there. Family troubles and stuff. But I will surely try.

01/11/2001: Rippin', dude!!!
Wow, this was something else. This was big Thursday. 3 meter waves in Domburg. In the beginning we couldn't even get in. That strong was the current towards the sea. But about 1 hour after high tide it became really beautiful. Nice long waves. It was amazing. Never seen such a thing in Domburg. Yeah, man. Who said you can't surf on the north sea? Well, this proved the opposite. Domburg goes Hawaii. Funny thing was that even the sun was shining. This was already the second time since I came back from Spain and it seems the waves just followed me home. Keep it up, nature. I love it.

30/10/2001: surf conditions suck !
What is wrong? every time I go to the sea lately I can admire a lake. Not very motivating an I'm beginning to freak out. I hope this week will be something but I'm afraid it will be nothing again. Today only 45 cm's. bwaargh. This has to change soon or I will go Nuts.

24/09/2001 : Great surf this week-end!
Unexpected but big fun. The weather was great which means normally no waves. But it was very cool. OK, it wasn't super clean but I could surf right up to the beach from time to time so that was cool. Another cool surf day in Domburg.

14/08/2001 : Back and surfing!
After some computer-problems, finally the story and the pictures from my latest surf trip to Spain. A few days later than expected but this time I can't help it. Here you go to Da Story

27/06/2001 : Vacation Route.
Finally, I'm going on vacation. Just counting down until nine July. Here you can see how my possible surf trip will go this time. It will be a cool trip once again. I wonder if I will return to Belgium.

12/06/2001 : Artificial Reef !
- In Holland there seem to be plans for making an artificial reef. At least there is a discussion going on about it. Off course environmental groups are against. The government doesn't know what to do with it, sponsor it or forbid it. And since the Dutch surf-community has a lot of German and Belgian surfers already, they are divided as well. Myself, I am against. You can't go shouting to everyone save the seas, the reef is vanishing! And afterwards put something strange into that environment without losing your credibility. At the same time you lose your fight for cleaner oceans and seas. My other motivation to be against this reef is that there are indeed enough surfers in the North sea. I'm afraid the friendly mentality might change to the ugly local one like they have in places like Lacanau in France.

02/06 2001 Surfing in Mariakerke ?
- Yeah, surf in Belgium. It doesn't happen every day. And you could notice it, way too much people. A crowded break in Belgium. I guess they were almost all present. Anyway I could take a few good ones with the long board. And then I went home since night had fallen again. I hate it when the waves are good but the tide is late.
Nothing to do about it, I'll have to go in the week-end again.

25-26 may 2001 Surf's up in Domburg !!!

- Wow man, great surf. Ok, I can't say it were big waves, but big enough to use my short board. More important was how clean the waves were. I haven't seen very much of them in the Netherlands.

- The first day the waves were about 1.5 meters high but it was hard to find a good take-off-point. This was caused by the strong wind along the coast. It wasn't really my day. I had been surfing the long board for an entire year and the switch to my short board gave me a lot of stability-problems. So I crashed for the entire day and couldn't surf one wave. Bummer? No way, man. I felt it would go better the next day and I had a lot of fun anyway. Jelle had a great day. So did Jo. They both surfed some great rides. Eva is also getting the hang of it and I guess Nils will follow soon. Now we only need to get the two Ans into the water. With a board that is. Oh yeah, I almost forgot Maximo. He's a promising shaper and surfs the best of us all I think. But we will get better soon.

- Second day started out pretty bad. No waves and it looked like our stay would end with a flat. But we kept on hoping and our trust in the sea was rewarded. By one o'clock some waves stated rolling in and I immediately took my board and jumped into the water. The first surfer of the day. I was really keen on getting some good waves. And yes, my first two or three waves were great and majestically wipe-outs but then suddenly I found my balance back. From that moment I didn't miss a lot of waves. Always on the right spot. My feeling was flawless today. I must have ridden about 50 waves man. They were so beautiful. No very big, only 1.25 m high. But they came in so clean. Perfect. It was the best surf I ever had. The waves should have been a bit higher but it was so much fun. I can't really describe it. Now, I'm totally beat but happy. I can still hear the waves in my head and when I close my eyes I'm still surfing. Tomorrow...more surf. CYP-meeting has been postponed so Sunday=surf day...
