Today Sri Lanka is celebrating 60 years of celebrating.

Let me take you back in time.

In 1948 Britton as a colonial power gave back then Ceylon its freedom and on 4th of February 1948 they got it.

Like Norway, Sri Lanka or then Ceylon had been under 500 years of colonial power.

First the Portuguese from 1505, later the Dutch and from 1796 and until 1948 Britton controlled the Island. Something that Sri Lankans are very proud of is, only Britton managed to finally to take the last kingdom of Sri Lanka, then the Kandyan Kingdom which lay in the hill country. Kandy was the last Sri Lankan kingdom that fell to the European powers. Neither the Portuguese nor the Dutch managed to take Kandy, but the British did.

So the last weeks up to this day we could see flags be sold on each corner, the Sri Lankan flag with the Lion, which symbolize the lion people of this Island. Sri Lankan Flag Meaning:

The green stripe represents Sri Lanka's minority Muslims and the orange stripe the minority Hindu Tamils. The yellow represents Buddhism and the crimson stands for a long life. The golden lion is an ancient symbol of the people and the sword is a symbol of authority. The pipul tree leaves are a Buddhist symbol and come from the tree, under which Gautama is said to have received enlightenment and become Buddha. Individually the leaves represent love, compassion, sympathy and equanimity. Into history, today’s flag is not the flag that was raised and Union Jack went down in 1948 but the pure Kandyan flag, with only the Lion in the middle. But that is another story.

So today our country, Sri Lanka should celebrate its independence. Instead of harmony 3 sever attacks overshadows much of this event.

Day before yesterday, Saturday a bomb exploded inside a bus in Dambulla, and 20 people died.

Yesterday, Sunday 3rd, 2 bombs went off. 1st bomb blew at the railway station in Fort, Colombo. 103 injured and 12 at least killed. Out of the 103 injured, 20 are critical.

The last exploded at Dehiwela zoo and four got injured and none killed. The last one I want to talk about. Roshani and I talked about going there today but we didn’t. Instead we went to church.

What to say? God is GOOD!

Pray for Sri Lanka! Many people are suffering hardships but also we saw today a record of new people in the church. As many as 15-20 new people came to our church for the first time today. This year many have come to the church for the first time. Our country is suffering, and people searching. God got it and now let them receive it. This is encouraging our pastor Ranjith.

Thanks for standing with us in prayers. They are needed for us, protection as well as help and guidance. We depend on the Lords help in everything.

Today people celebrate freedom, but we have received freedom, and as the bible say: Philipians.4

7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Love from Sri Lanka
