Kalevala = the national epic of Finland, compiled and arranged in 1834 by Elias Lonnrot. This is the only known written version, aside from the Kanteletar, of the Finnish oral tradition which may be thousands of years old.
Kanteletar = companion to the Kalevala. The Kanteletar was compiled in 1840, also by Elias Lonnrot. It is comprised of nearly 700 traditional Finnish poems and ballads.
Although there are some similarities between these works and stories of Scandinavian mythology, they are mostly coincidental. Their origins are actually quite different.
