Sequel
in for a "Bottom Job"

Next
We were all ready to leave Trinidad so we hauled Sequel for a new coat of bottom
paint and getting her topsides polished. It was the finishing touches, then we
'd we be sailing out for some cruising to places where we could relax and enjoy the
crystal clear waters of the Caribbean. We weren't prepared for the news that
we had BLISTERS No, not that !!!! We're ready to GO.

Blisters on the hull
- looks more like the surface of the moon. |
Blisters meant Sequel needed to have the hull peeled and sit on the hard to dry out
before a new bottom is put on the hull. We can't live aboard while that happens so
we had to "leave home". Sigh.... that means taking our personal
things off, carefully putting any valuables where they can't be found, and finding another
place to live for an extended period.

Peeling the gelcoat
and one layer of fiberglass. |
The boat yard stripped the gelcoat and one layer of fiberglass off the hull.
Sequel's water content wasn't as bad as we feared. It looks like we might get Sequel
back in the water sometime in January. Now THAT is great news.
We'll take advantage of the boat being on the hard and fly back to California for the
Christmas Holidays. It will be fun to see everyone and the time will pass quickly
when we're with family.

Staying at the hotel
at Crews Inn Marina isn't too hard. |
We want to stay in Trinidad until Sequel is ready to dry so we got a room at the Crews
Inn Hotel. Not a bad place to wait out the news -- we head up to see the boat every
morning then come back for a dip in the pool.
We'll update this page when they start applying a new hull. |
