Haul-out 2003 May 6, 2003 - June 14, 2003 Bojean Boatyard, Miami, FL |

A look at the cabin during our time in the yard. As one can easily see, I'm not the most organized fellow. |
Here's our 27 year-old Shipmate kerosene stove getting a new burner. One of the many spares that came with Synergy. |
A view of one of the 42 blisters that needed attention during the haul out. The hull was allowed to dry for five weeks before the blisters were filled with vinylester and chopped strand. |
Here is a view of a repaired blister. A coating of vinylester fairing material was applied, then sanded for the final touch. |
Here's what the vinylester fairing material looks like when it's applied. |
A view of Synergy on the hard with blisters repaired. |
View of the boomkin and rudder before the boomkin was replaced. The boomkin on Synergy is a structural piece of fir to which the backstay and boomkin whisker stays are attached. |
Underside view of the boomkin. If the picture were clearer, you would see the large cracks (checking) on the underside of the boomkin spars. |
Here's another view of the boomkin; a starboard side view. |
The boomkin with the endplate and stays removed. |
A view of the stainless steel endplate. The light-colored piece of wood to the right was a large sample of teak. I originally planned to use teak instead of fir, but the sample split in two when I attempted to drill into it. I'm glad it happened before I went any further. |
A view of one of the four blocks that attach to the boomkin for use with the mainsheet. |
Notice the color of the fir underneath where the block once was. What a shame to have painted such a beautiful surface! |
Here I've removed all but one of the blocks. You can see that the varnished finish was found under each one. |
The last remaining block was no different. |
A view of the disassembled boomkin and rudder stock. I removed the tiller for ease of movement. |
