Thaleia in D.C.

To the left is the Washington channel anchorage just across from the Capital Yacht Club which is pictured above.

This place (above) was highly recommended as the best fried cod in the world. It's part of the wharf complex next door to the CYC, and they called it "the fatman in the blue shack", as the owner has obviously sampled his wares a little too much. In addition to the cod, we can recommend the soups, any or all of them, as being the best we've had in a long long time. You can see (right) that we're not the only ones who flock here for treats.

The fish markets were the real treat here. Just look at the variety of fish and seafood in these markets!

When I saw this, I wanted to stay through the winter. At some of these markets, the fish mongers will give you a discount to keep your business, so it makes shopping a little more interesting.

Of course, the National Gallery is absolutely beautiful at Christmas. The red and white pointsettias dressed the fountain in festive, full-blooming finery! I couldn't resist taking a photo.

The kids gather for the gumbo dinner.

From left to right, Crissy, Brendan, Dee Dee, Brian. Maura and John.

Left and below are pictures of the family taken at our Tween Holiday celebration at Dee's place in Dupont Circle. The only name missing from the previous family shots is Toby (he's the handsome one sitting down front and looking wistfully off into the distance, thinking, no doubt, about a time gone by when he was a railroad tramp.)

We hated to go. It was wonderful to be here, to see the kids, and to spend some time in Washington seeing the city. But now it is time to get to warmer weather!
