Thaleia in Winter

It's Christmas morning on Lodge Creek at Olverson's Marina.

We noticed the ice on the water and fretted a bit, but found it rather amusing when we saw two sea gulls standing on the ice. If you look very carefully at the center of the picture below, you can spot them!

John and I are beginning to feel the chill of the icy weather, but the wool navy sweaters we've been carrying around for 3 years come in very handy.

Notice the telltale signs on Johns wrists--the long underwear trimmed cuffs! Anything to stay warm.

This, of course is the prelude to what we got in Great Bridge, Virginia, just after New Year's Day. After our prop shaft gave us the shaft on New Year's Eve, we found ourselves waiting for weather again. Fortunately, we didn't get underway earlier, as there was a bitter snow storm headed our way. We picked up a small quartz heater at the Lowe's in Great Bridge, and sat out the storm. If you're nice and cozy inside, this can be a picturesque moment. If not, it's a survival moment!

Even though we knew it was coming, when we awoke on January 3rd, we saw the most unlikely sight!

HELP!!! Where's the snow shovel??

To the left is the highway bridge in Great Bridge, Virginia. It's just south of the locks. We were on the other side of this bridge, approching it as it opened when our prop shaft backed out of the coupling.

We were fortunate that this marina, the Atlantic Yacht Basin, was just on the other side of the bridge. They rescued us and towed us to the safety of their pier where John did his magic. Here, we waited for the snow storm to come and go. Now, we're on our way again.
