MID-CAROLINA IPMS SWAMPFOX NEWSFLASH  July 2002

Our June meeting had 8 members in attendance! Hobbytown has now donated a display case for us to display our models in and we will be sharing this with IPMS/Gamecocks. A sign is being made with both club names and logos. Also we were introduced to Cal who is now working at Hobbytown. Cal has a strong plastic background and is working hard with Jamie to beef up the model aisle.

We would also like to extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to Alex Smith’s father who was injured in an ultralight crash. Mr. Smith is back at home an improving daily!

Please be sure and visit our website at www.oocities.org/swamp001. We now have had over 12,500 hits. We are hoping that things settle down at Randy’s job so he can update the articles.

People have been asking for the following demos: Weathering of vehicles and aircraft, plastic polishing, Airbrush tips, natural metal finishes, airbrushing. So volunteers are needed.

On the demo note; Phil Campbell did a demo on various wash techniques. One of Phil’s favorite washes is to use Future floor wax and blue or brown India ink over his enamel painted models. Phil also covered enamel wash techniques and the rustall and weatherall products. We all learned some new things. In the next meeting or two I will do a panel line wash demo.

We want to make sure that our flyers and Sumter’s are up in the local hobby shops. If you notice either club’s missing when you next visit a shop please let me know so they can be replaced. It is very important to let potential members know both clubs are out there.

Members from both clubs will be going to Virginia Beach for the IPMS nationals at the end of July. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to see the best in scale modeling and the largest collection of vendors that you will see anywhere. You owe it to yourself to attend. For those unable to go, if you bring a want list and what your maximum price is for these goodies I will look for them at Virginia Beach. We will have a full report on the Nationals at our August meeting.
