MID-CAROLINA IPMS SWAMPFOX NEWSFLASH March 2004 |
Our March meeting had 13 members in attendance and 3 guests! We would like to welcome our guests, Skip Dickens, Gary Stevens and Silver and hope that they will drop back by again soon. This was a great meeting with lots of plastic on show! Remember models for the D-day exhibit are due by mid-May and the museum will execute a signed loan agreement with each member providing models. This is crunch time so please work hard to finish your projects! You will need a declared value for each for the museum’s insurance to cover your model. We also received an update from Sumter on the Regional they will be hosting for next year. Anyone who can help out please volunteer. We received a thank you note for the flowers we sent to the funeral for Tim Kirkland’s wife Debbie! Saw Tim at the SCMA Greenville show and he is just not the same person anymore, but he is dealing with the loss. On March 27th, Chuck, Pete and myself went to the SCMA-Greenville show. This was at a new facility and was a great show! They had over 400 entries and much improved vendors for us non-automotive modelers as well as vendor heaven for those who build any automotive subject! You should make plans to attend next year’s show! The very next weekend Chuck, Tony Abbott and myself ventured over to Anniston, Alabama for the IPMS/Phantom Phlashers show. This was also an excellent show with over 400 models entered. Again, there was much to separate the modeler from his wallet and an awesome raffle!! Paul from Sumter was also there and picked up two trophies for one entry. 1st for his 1/72 F7F Tigercat and also a best out of the box in that category for the same aircraft. I got a best out of the box award for my 1/48 P-47D that was for the D-day exhibit in 1/48 Radial engine allied fighter split category. Tony Abbot also got a plaque but I can’t remember for which model. Our website continues to grow and improve. The site address is www.oocities.org/swamp001 Everyone will need to be featured to keep this site fresh. Randy will now concentrate on Webmaster duties and he needs new features. Thanks to John Sherrer for offering to do the next feature. DUES ARE NOW DUE!!! $12 for the year or $6 for Sumter club members who also want to join our club. They offer the same deal for our members and I encourage you to take advantage of this. Fifteen members have already paid so please get yours in ASAP. People have been asking for the following demos: Weathering of vehicles and aircraft, plastic polishing, Airbrush tips, natural metal finishes, airbrushing. So volunteers are needed. We want to make sure that our flyers and Sumter’s are up in the local hobby shops. If you notice either club’s missing when you next visit a shop please let me know so they can be replaced. It is very important to let potential members know both clubs are out there. New items on display for us to drool over were:
