MID-CAROLINA IPMS SWAMPFOX NEWSFLASH  March 2002

Our February meeting had 11 members in attendance. We also welcomed a guest, Jimmy Steele. Jimmy is predominantly an allied WWII armor modeler but also does war gaming figures and light commercial truck models and we are glad he came by and hope to have him join up. Welcome Jimmy!

Please be sure and visit our website at www.oocities.org/swamp001. We now have had over 11,000 hits.

DUES ARE NOW DUE! If you have not paid your $12 please bring it to the meeting and give it to Randy.

John Sherrer did a demo on how to make tarps, bags and covers from paper and foil that was very well received. This month Phil will be doing a figure painting demo.

It was good to see Chuck Pelle back! Chuck has been recovering from surgery and we are glad to see that he is getting back to normal. Chuck brought in a very unusual item for our show and tell. It was a WWII Navy Plotting board model set. This contained various lead ships and planes in 1/2000 and 1/5000 scale. Each type of ship or plane was still in it's original paper bag and had it's own compartment in a three tray wooden box. It was great to see this piece of history! Thanks, Chuck!

On March 9, Mike Petryszak, Randy King (via ghost entry) and I went to Gaston county Model builder's contest at Belmont Abbey in NC. We met up with Pete Maher, Mike Meehan from Columbia and Paul Lovell, Jeff Adair and Tony Abbott from Sumter at the show. This was a good contest and there was lots of models on the table. It was a good showing for both the Swampfoxes and the Gamecocks as Mike took a 3rd, I took a 3rd, Tony got two 2nds, Paul got a 1st and 2nd and Mike Meehan took 4 different awards. Also next year's regional will be in Spartanburg, SC hosted by Tim Kirkland's club so start building and plan accordingly!
