Subject: Book Contract
To: Ms. Graham, Editor, Penguin books
From: Dr. Kozaburou Nambu
Dear Ms. Graham,
As requested, here is a proposed chapter outline for my book on Team Management. Although I have not written a book before, I have had a wealth of scientific research literature published.i This experience should stand me in good stead for making this book a success.
1. Creating team identity
- Choose a catchy team name and logo.
- Have your team together in the one place as much as possible.
- Use uniforms if possible.
2. Developing personal authority
- Develop a strong technical reputation and personal charisma.
- If dealing with youngsters who are unimpressed by a formidable scientific reputation, it is perfectly acceptable to say "because I said so".
3. The ideal team member
- Devoted, technically competent and follows instructions.
- Case study – Jun.
4. Dealing with personality conflicts within your team
- Use of the Myer-Briggs personality categories.
- Case study – Ken and Jo.
5. Developing your team members skills
- Recruit team members with the minimum experience for their position and then train them up.
- Give team members work at their highest capability level.
6. Motivating team members through use of rewards
- Reserve the best perks (assignments, weapons, vehicles etc) for your best team members.
7. Dealing with high pressured assignments
- Frequent progress reports are essential for tight assignment control
- Shield your team members from unnecessary outside stress and politics
- Keep an eye on your team members for signs of stress, fatigue or trauma
Please contact me if you have any suggestions or questions on the above.
Yours sincerely,
Kozaburou Nambu
