Dr.SWARNA KHUNTIA

An Accomplished Hindustani Classical Violinist

                  DR. SWARNA KHUNTIA born in a family of musician at  Cuttack, Orissa. Her father,Pandit.Harmohan Khuntia is an excellent Tabla & Odissi Pakhawaj player and he him self is a disciple of Padmabibhusan Pt. Gyanprakash Ghosh and presently working as a senior A- Grade Staff Artist at A. I. R, Cuttack. 

                 SWARNA started her musical journey in 1987 when started receiving her initial training in Violin from guru Sri. Prafulla Kr. Roy. Later after completing her graduation in Chemistry she joined Faculty of Performing Arts,Banaras Hindu University for her B. Music course in 1990. From there she got a rare opportunity to learn Violin under the famous Violinist of India who is a pioneer in "GAYAKI ANG "of Violin playing,Padmabhushan Dr.Smt.N.Rajam. 

                She has completed her Doctor Of Music (D.Mus) in 1997  Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi under the Supervision of Padmabhusan Dr. Smt. N.Rajam, Master of Music (M.Mus) in 1995 from BHU with First Division ,Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) in 1993 from BHU with First Division & Gold Medal for the First Position in the University. 

                Swarna is a ‘B’- High Grade Artist of All India Radio, Cuttack and Doordarshan, Bhubaneswar. Apart from the Musical training she has a strong academic background. She has completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Ecology & Environmental Science in 1995 from Indian Institute of Environment & Ecology, New Delhi, India with First Division and B. Sc. (Chemistry Hons) in 1990 from Utkal University , Orissa with First Division with Distinction.

                Swarna has received many important Fellowships, Scholarships, Awards & Prizes from various organisation Such as Junior Research Fellowship awarded by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Culture Govt. of India in 1998:, Orissa Sangeet Natak Academy Fellowship awarded by Orissa Sangeet Natak Academy, Bhubaneswar, Orissa in 1995:, National Cultural Scholarship given by Ministry of  HRD, Govt. of India in 1993:, Pandit Omkarnath Thakur Award awarded by Banaras Hindu University in 1993:,SUR – MANI Title given by Sur–Singar Samsad, Mumbai in 1997:, University Gold Medal received for First Position in B. Music, BHU in 1993:,  First & Second Prizes in Light & Classical Music (Violin) given in the Youth Festival conducted by “Abhivyakti” in 1992.

                Swarna is presently  Working as a Lecturer in Violin in the Department of  Instrumental  Music, Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.Earlier University, Varanasi. Worked as a Lecturer in Violin at Indira Kala Sangeet  Viswavidyalaya, Chhattishgarh for  4 years (Dec 99-Jan 2004), As a faculty in Violin at  Gandharva Mahavidyalaya , New  Delhi from Jan 99-Dec'99,As a teaching Associate in  Violin at Banaras Hindu University  for Two Years for two academic Session 95-95 &  95-96.

                Swarna has performed as a Solo Violinist in many major Music Festivals, Concerts all over the country and received wide appreciations all over. some of the Major events are
