The Students' Welfare Council of Batu Lancang (S.W.C.B.L.), in
Malay is Persatuan Kebajikan Penuntut-Penuntut Batu Lancang. SWCBL
is located on the 1st floor of the "Balai Rakyat Batu Lancang".
It is beside the municipal hall of Batu Lancang. The first board
of SWCBL was born in the year 1987. |

SWCBL is one of the Municipal Council of Penang Island's libraries.
SWCBL was organized and guarded by Dato Koh Choong Wah (DSPN,
DJN, AMN, PJM, JP) since the year 1984. |

SWCBL is run by volunteers who are students. Nowadays, about 1000
students from the whole Penang Island are librarians for SWCBL.
An AGM is held every year and a new committee will be selected
to manage this library. |

This library is fully subsidized by the MPPP. Every SWC in Penang
will organize functions so that the relationship among librarians
will be closer. |
|
At the beginning, SWCBL is only a place for the students to
study. There were few books available. But now, it has turned
into a small library with plenty of reference books provided.
More than 5000 books are provided. Besides, the
library is now air-conditioned and is much more comfortable
than it was when there were only fans provided for the users'
comfort. So, the library of Batu Lancang is the most suitable
place for students to study. |

Further more, most of the books are donated by the Y,B., residents,
societies and ex-students. In addition, the Municipal Council
of Penang Island also provides this library with a lot of books
every year. We would like to thank the people mentioned above
for their kindness and help. |
| Nowadays,
4000 users are registered as members of this library. So, we
would like to thank the members support us so much in
every way. The librarians had been able to manage this library
for so long. The librarians have their very own experiences
and knowledge equivalent to run this library. |

by the Multimedia Unit (Students' Welfare Council Batu
