Annakin Starkiller: Today I want to talk about one of the most annoying problems around, well to some that is: Net Decking. Just what is "net decking"? Well, "net decking" is the action of building a deck according to what someone posts on a website, forum or chat room. The person net decking takes the said deck, constructs it in the exact manner and uses it as his own. Well, first of all, I don't see a problem with this. Why? Well, once you post your deck on the Internet, etc. you void uniqueness. You also void ownership. There is only one reason why anyone would put a deck on the Internet. So that people can see it. Whether it is to review it, submit it to a site or to just brag about it, you are still putting it up for many to see and to think that no one will use your idea, whether in part or whole, is naive. When I put a deck on the Internet, I know that someone might use it, part or whole. I put it up so that people can see what I'm doing and maybe correct me on things that I am doing wrong so that I may better my deck. If a person does not want their deck to be "stolen" than don't place it somewhere where people are going to constantly see it. If you own a jewelery store and don't want people to steal your jewelery than don't put the 1/2 ct. diamond ring right outside the door on a stand with no one watching it. That would be ludicrous. I have decks that I have never put up on the Internet. Those are my decks. Decks that I plan to take to tournaments or conventions. I don't want people to see what I am going to use before I even use it. I know it's a longshot that someone who sees the deck on the Internet is going to see my deck in real life, but it's still a shot and that is a shot I am not willing to take. Unless you are willing to share your deck and ideas with everyone else, don't post a deck on the Internet. If you do, don't whine and cry when you see someone with the same deck at a tournament or convention. It's your own fault for putting it up. Now for those who "net deck" I have this to say, Net Decking is fine in my opinion, but don't take the whole deck and just use it to use it because it's good and has won tournaments. Take a deck, use it and study it. Why is this good? Why did it win? What are the pros and cons? Better the deck. If you just take decks off the Internet without studying them than they might not even work for you as you didn't build it and might not know the intricate strategies of that deck. Incorporate your own cards or your own strategies. Try and make it your own. Use a "net deck" for a while, until you figure out some of your own ideas with it and than make your own. |
