PREVIOUS OPINIONS - Permanent weapons in CCG. Annakin Starkiller: This time around I'm going to talk about permanent weapons on a card. Do they really work? Is the card as useful? Of course it is. Of course the card works. I love these cards. They take up less space in your deck leaving room for other important cards. Before the permanent weapons you would have to sacrafice certain cards for others. Now you can take those cards and put them in your deck. The only problem with character and permanent weapons is that they lose immunity to attrition. Take Obi-Wan with Lightsaber. Normally he would have an attrition of less than 5 but with his permanent weapon he loses that so now he is vulnerable to attrition and that pretty much sucks because he can now go at any time. Now you have to protect him a bit better and watch who you fight. Also what I like is that you don't have to wait for two cards to come into hand before you can deploy and finish off a certain strategy. Before permanent weapons you would have to wait for Obi-Wan to come into hand. Then you would have to wait until you get his lightsaber for a good fight. Yes you could use interrupts to help you like Tunnel Vision or Weapon Levitation but you would have to wait for those too. If you were lucky you might have been able to get Obi-Wan and his lightsaber together. Now let's say that your opponent has Vader all alone on a site with no weapon and not back-up on the surrounding sites. Your opponent has about 2 cards in hand so you figure it's worth a fight between him and the Obi-Wan in your hand but, what good is the fight without a good interrupt or a weapon. By the time you do get his weapon he might already have back-up on the surrounding sites or your opponent could now have 7 cards in hand and they might be pretty good. Having Obi-Wan with Lightsaber illiminates that. You would have had him in your hand, put him down, battle, use his lightsaber and maybe use a card to get away. Yes, a hit and run. Cowardly, yet effective. Normally attrition wouldn't do squat for these guys and battle damage would but, your Obi w/saber has no immunity. Chances are, though, your opponent would probably lose the 3 damage from hand or reserve deck. The good thing is that when you use his permanent lightsaber, the character hit loses their forfiet value and you can target for free. It's just to bad that the Game Player's Network has banned these from DecipherCon gameplay. I myself like these cards. They make great additions to any deck. It was brought to my attention by Tyranus that these cards have not been banned like said above. I apologize for getting lost in my own words. It is true that they are not banned from regular play but GPN has banned them from the Classic Format as said in our news section. |
