    GENERAL CARPET CARE

Regular vacuuming is the key to keeping carpet beautiful and new-looking. If possible, vacuum heavy-traffic areas every day. Other areas can be done once a week.Vacuum with three passes for light cleaning; up to seven passes for more stubborn soil. Of course, no matter how often you vacuum, carpet needs thorough heavy-duty cleaning occasionally. Many types of cleaners are available, including dry cleaners, spray-on foam cleaners, and wet shampoo. Whatever type you choose, be sure it is made exclusively for carpets. Always test a cleaner on a small inconspicuous area of the carpet first. Avoid using alkaline soaps or cleaning liquids meant for hard surfaces such as wood or tile. When choosing a professional carpet cleaner, ask for a reference and/or a firm estimate.

    TREATING OF SPILLS

Act immediately! Don't let the spill set or it might never be removed. Remember these three steps:

    1. Apply
    2. Blot
    3. Scrape

First, wet a clean, white paper towel with a cleaning solution, then dampen the carpet with the wet paper towel. Avoid wetting the carpet through to the backing. Absorb the excess liquid from the carpet by pressing straight down with a clean, dry, white paper towel. DO NOT
RUB. Place a 1/2" thick pad of clean, dry, white paper towels with a weight on top and leave overnight if necessary. Gently scratch the soiled area with the blunt edge of a spoon. Scrape from the outside edge of the spot toward the center.

The following cleaning solutions can be used to treat spills. Make sure to test cleaner on a
    small inconspicuous area first.
