Gary only shows up in a few episodes during the whole Pokemon series. And when he does, we can only enjoy his glorious presence for a brief while (this is so unfair ><;;). Anyway, here’s a list of all the episodes he’s in (it’s not a long list, sadly u.u) and a small description of them. Of course, I have them all taped and I keep watching them over and over! Mwah mwah! ^_~
Episode 1 – “Pokemon, I Choose You!”
This is the very first episode of the series, and that’s when we get introduced to the Pokemon world and, of course, our cute cutie Gary Oak and his annoying group of cheerleaders. Ash is late for getting his first Pokemon from Prof Oak and, when he gets to Oak’s lab, he runs into Gary, who starts bragging about how he got the best Pokemon from his grandfather. He promises to everyone who was there that he would become a great Pokemon master and would make Pallet Town known all over the world and then leaves the place as Ash begins mumbling about.
Episode 8 – “Here Comes the Squirtle Squad!”
This sure is Gary’s briefest appearance of all episodes. He only shows up for, like, 3 seconds (><;;) as he opens a door and hits Ash with it. Oh well, Ash deserved it! ^_~
Lost Episode: “The Beauty Contest” (I don’t know if this is the real title ^^;)
On this episode, Gary’s stupid cheerleaders take part in a Pokemon beauty contest, along with Misty and Ash’s Squirtle, Team Rocket and even Ash’s mom! O.o This episode was banned around here because James disguises as a woman (now tell me something new -_- Lol^^) and wears fake boobs that are even bigger than Jessie’s! And because of that, we lost one of the few episodes Gary is in…so sad…u.u
Episode 38 – “Dig Those Digletts!”
When the best trainers around are invited to get rid of some Digletts that were stopping a company from building a dam, Gary shows up to help. He starts saying that Ash only was there by a mere coincidence and that he wasn’t as good as he. (my favorite quote comes from that episode: “You were fourth to leave home, but as a trainer you’re dead last!” Whee!) Gary shows off a lot in that episode, like when he explains about Diglett’s height, weight, speed, etc., but not even his knowledge helps him to get his job done, once none of his Pokemon would come out of their pokeballs to fight the Digletts, then he decides to go away and keep on his journey.
Episode 46 – “Attack of the Pre Historic Pokemon!”
Here comes Indiana Gary!!! Wheeee!!! *ahem* Gary tells Ash about “The Great Fossil Race” and then Ashie-boy dashes to the place where people were doing all the digging to se if he could find some Pokemon fossils. Poor Gary, he gets all happy when he finds a “fossilized Pokemon brain”, but it turned out it was fossilized Pokemon poop! Tsk tsk…
Episode 203 – “Riddle Me This!”
Ash and his friends are traveling to Cinnabar Island to get one more badge when they find Gary, who was also going to that island, but not for the same reasons. He claims that he’s got so many badges that he decided he needed to get a tan! (hmm…try to picture a tanned Gary and you’ll drool a waterfall. Believe me… ^_^;;) He warns Ash that looking for a Pokemon Gym in Cinnabar was a waist of time, but Ashie-boy insists on finding the Gym. Later on, Gary shows up again, wearing one of those super cool Japanese traditional outfits. He looks so cute beans wearing that!! ^____^
Episode 208 – “The Battle for the Badge”
Attention, everyone: THIS IS A GARY CENTERED EPISODE! WHEEEE!! ^_^ Gary goes to Viridian City Gym to fight for the Earth Badge, but he has to face Giovanni, Team Rocket’s boss! Gary uses his Nidoking and Arcanine (this is the first time we get to see some of his Pokemon!) to defeat Giovanni’s Golem and Kingler, but then “The Boss” calls out Mewtwo and, of course, Gary loses the battle. Then Ash comes and wins the badge, but only because he battled Jessie and James and THEY HAD NO MEWTWO TO ASSURE THEIR VICTORY! That’s so unfair, Gary has to battle Mewtwo to get the badge while Ash has to fight Team Rocket!!!! Oh, for God’s sake, could anyone lose to THEM?? Ash is just too lucky…
Episode 212 – “Showdown at the Poke-corral!”
Ash has no clue as to where the Pokemon League is going to take place, then he goes to Oak’s lab to try and find it out. Gary was also there and, after a short argument between them to see who was the best trainer, Prof Oak decides to take everyone to make a tour around his lab. After they visit the whole place, Gary suggests that he and Ash should have a warm-up battle before the Championships, but just when they were about to fight, Team Rocket shows up and tries to steal all the Pokemon that Oak has in his lab. After Ash’s Tauroses save the day, Gary decides to call off the battle and go home. Maybe this was his own way to thank Ash for saving his grandfather’s lab. Mwah! ^_^
Episode 221 – “All Fired Up!”
The Indigo League Championships are about to begin and Ash and his friends finally reach Indigo Plateau, where the championships will happen. Gary makes a brief appearance on this episode, sitting on a table and sipping his tea with his group of annoying cheerleaders behind him, as he tells Ash that his chances of winning the championship were really small, ‘cause the only way to reach victory on that place was studying your opponent’s strategies and Ash hadn’t done that, as usual. Later on, when the competitors are entering the stadium, Ash walks in nervously as Gary seems quite relaxed and self-confident as he comes into the battlefield. Mwah mwah! ^_^
Episode 222 – “Round One Begin!”
The Indigo League Championships have finally begun! Ash’s quite nervous about his first battle on the Water Field, while Gary seems confident about his first victory on the Ice Field. Later on, Gary appears on TV (Yay!^^) being interviewed by some reporters, and when he says “All the trainers I know are losers!”, Ash gets quite pissed for he knew that was directed to him. Mwah! ^^
Episode 223 – “Fire and Ice!”
Another one of Gary’s super short appearances. On this episode, he only shows up for a brief while, after Ash wins his second battle on the Ground Field. He complains about how Ash wins two easy battles and his friends are celebrating like he had won the Championship. I think he got a bit jealous that no one was there to cheer for him, except for his stupid group of cheerleaders. Poor Geru-kun…
Episode 224 – “Fourth Round Rumble!”
Gary’s having his fourth battle on the Ground Field, but his Nidoking is defeated by his opponent’s Golem then he is out of the League. He looks so sad and disappointed as he walks to his car, but when he sees Ash is coming to “comfort” him, he gets back to his super confident self and says that the trainer was just lucky to beat him, and that he got distracted by his cheerleaders. As always, he goes away with great style! Wheee!! ^_^
Episode 310 – “A Tent Situation!”
Ash is back from the Orange League Tournaments and when he goes to Prof Oak’s lab to give him the mysterious GS ball, Team Rocket comes into the scene and tries to steal all the Pokemon in the lab (again). But this time they decided to be smart and then tied everyone up so that they couldn’t do anything to stop them from taking the monster away. But just when Team Rocket’s plan is working, Gary shows up wearing that ultra-cool cape and uses his Nidoqueen to send Jessie, James and Meowth to stratosphere! After that, Ashie-boy challenges Gary for their first Pokemon battle ever! Who’s gonna win?? Watch the next episode to find out! Lol^^
Episode 311 – “The Rivalry Revival!”
Ash chooses Pikachu for the battle against his rival, while Gary chooses his starter Pokemon, his cute beans Eevee! After a really quick battle, Pikachu is defeated and Ash seems crushed. Then he finds out Gary is leaving for Johto to take part in the Johto League and, as usual, he decides to go after him to get a chance of a payback time. Yeah, right, as if Ash had any chances of beating Gary! Yay! ^_^
Episode 316 - ”Illusion Confusion!"
As usual, this is another short short appearance... Ash and Co. are lost in the woods (as usual...-_-), when they start seeing and hearing strange stuff. Then Gary appears with a HootHoot that uses some kind of special power (I think it's the Foresight attack)on the scary stuff, which happen to be just illusions created by ghosts that live in that forest. Then he explains to Ash and is friends that they need to get a HootHoot if they wanna get out of those woods, otherwise they might stay lost forever. After that, he and HootHoot go away, leaving Ash desperate for a HootHoot. XD It's just too good to know that Gary is the only one who seems to actually know what he's doing...^_^
Episode 414 - "Power Play!"
As the episode begins, we hear an unknown voice challenging a fellow trainer. Ash gets all excited to see what's going on and, just as he approaches, he notices that the challenged trainer is no one else but Gary! But that's not all, Gary now has Umbreon, since his Eevee evolved! The battle starts and the trainer uses an Alakazam against Umbreon and, of course, is beaten pretty easily. Then Ash climbs down from the rocks he was standing on and challenges Gary for a battle. Gary refuses and says that e has studied all of Pikachu's attack patterns, meaning that a battle would be a waste of time for both, and then he leaves.
Later on, Ash and Co. are taking a break in a Pokemon center when suddenly they run out of power. Nurse Joy explains that, without electricity, the Pokemon in the center might die, then the gang dashes to the power plant to see what happened. Gary also notices the blackout, then goes to the power plant as well. Just when Ash and Co. get there, Team Rockets attacks with a Mega Robot Wobbufett, which neeed the power plant's electricity to move around. Gary shows up and gets Umbreon to destroy the wires that supplied power for TR's robot, then they run to the power plant.
The power plant crew thank the gang for saving them, then they explain that, if the water containers were open, they could use the water flow to generate electricity. Gary dashes to get them open, but just when Ash and Co. were about to do the same, Team Rocket shows up again! Ash uses his pokemon and finally get TR to "blast off again" Then they join Gary and finally get the water containers open, after some hard team work. Ash then thanks Gary for helping them and he says that Ash has improved a lot in his training and that he shouldn't be surprised if he challenges him next time they meet and then leaves, followed by his loyal Umbreon. THE END! Lol! ^_^
Episode 519 - "Extreme Pokemon!"
Right at the beginning of the eppie, Gary shows up riding a sleigh pulled by his Arcanine (Yay!! We get to see Gary’s Arcanine again!!!). Ash challenges him to a battle, but Gary refuses to battle, since he couldn’t afford to let his Pokemon get hurt before The Great Race. Then he dashes to the next town and Ash follows him in order to try and find out what that “Great Race” was.
Later on, Ash gets a sleigh so that he and his Bayleef could join the race. As the race starts, Gary and his Arcanine are doing great, but Team Rocket soon shows up to try and steal…guess who? If you said “Pikachu” , you are wrong! For once, they actually act smart and steal Arcanine!! Upon seeing this, Ash chases Team Rocket to get Gary’s pokemon back, while he runs after the trio. After a short battle, they set Arcanine free and go back to the race.
Ash is way behind Gary, but then he makes “an incredible maneuver” , reaches Gary and wins the race…for, like, ONE INCH!!!! That’s so not fair!!!!!!!! If Team Rocket hadn’t stolen Arcanine, I’m sure Gary would’ve won the race!!!!! Grrr!!!!
