Natural from Pallet Town, Gary is the grandson of the famous Pokemon researcher, Prof. Samuel Oak, and has been learning about Pokemon since the day he was born. He and Ash became Pokemon trainers and started on their journeys on the very same day, which is probably the reason for such rivalry between them. Of course, Gary also got the best Pokemon from Prof. Oak while Ash had to deal with a left-behind Pikachu, and that helped a lot for making Ash got even more pissed at Gary and swear he would become a better trainer than his rival. (Yeah right, DREAM ON, ASH! Ahem…sorry about that…^_^;;)

Gary’s dream is to become the world’s greatest Pokemon master, and he’s doing really great on his way there. He is an outstanding Pokemon trainer (who is so much better than Ashie-boy, if you ask me^^; Ahem…) and he has caught over 200 Pokemon already (and that was last check, he’s probably caught over 300 by now^^) and, in my opinion, he is a lot more dedicated to his training than Ash. Take this for example: when Ash and Gary first competed on the Indigo League, they both lost, but Gary decided to stay around Pallet and improve his skills through a rigorous training, while Ash didn’t even think twice before joining the Orange Islands League. What a kid…

Even though Gary’s really bully, arrogant, overly self-confident, bragger and snobbish during the first two seasons, he changes a lot in the third season. He leaves behind his (annoying) cheerleading squad and starts using his own feet to get from town to town (why did he have to leave his car??? He looked so cool in that red mustang…*drools* Ahem...). But above all, he evolves from an annoying brat into a strict trekker (Hmm…Rurouni Shigeru? ^_^; Oops!) who prefers to walk alone wearing his cape and being followed by his loyal Umbreon.

Gary is a character that makes you think. No matter what happens, he never loses his style. He tries to keep his confident and unbeatable attitude, but he can show some other emotions at times. Take the episode where he lost the battle against Mewtwo, for instance: for the first time, he looked worried about something, and even a bit disappointed about his loss (Oh my God, he looked so cute lying there, all defenseless…^_^;). And there’s also the one where he lost in the Indigo League. He looked REALLY disappointed on that one, and a lot sad for having lost. But then, right when Ash approaches him, he goes back to his good ol' confident self, because he would never let anyone, especially his rival, notice he is not as indifferent as he seems to be.

I’d better stop now, ‘cause this could go on forever…^_^;;
