Faceless Audience

Cloaked in faded silver
Hanging by a slender strand
Black blood closing in around me
The hand of fate was closing in

And in the night there came a silence
Of losing what we love most
Did you know I was lost
Until I met you?

And in your eyes I found a haven
A gift from god or sleigh of hand?
Fate or devils claws?
The warmth of your arms

But here comes the cold again
You've drawn away from me
Perhaps these chains
Were meant to break you see.

I've loved you all my life
And in the drawn curtain of the stage
I see you in the faceless audience
Always cheering me on

I always thought I was acting
I was wrong from the start
An act that doesn't end
Constantly blinded by the spotlight

I'll play the role, leading lady
As long as I can
It's tiresome to stand here
Bound in costume and light

And from the audience
A faceless voice calls
Drowned by the rumble of applause
I can't reach to you, I'm a player

Perhaps some day the score will end
And I'll find my faceless applause elsewhere
I'll find myself seated among them
Waiting to be the faceless one
