Growing up in a small neighborhood, school was the place where I could be among peers. Learning has always been very important to me. I was quite shocked, when in first grade my teacher marked my beautiful work with red marks. Since then I have placed a great deal of emphasis on academic achievement. In ninth grade I had a difficult time in Algebra causing me to lose confidence in my abilities and myself. Through this experience I know how important praise is to a child.
My high school years were very difficult. I lost interest in learning, and began to make mistakes. The consequences of my mistakes cost me my senior year. I knew I needed to make a change. I received my GED, and enrolled at Enterprise State Junior College. I had wonderful professors who showed genuine interest in what I had to say. I soon regained confidence in my abilities and myself. I decided then that I wanted to become a teacher.
During the course of my studies and observations at different schools, I became interested in the variety of ways a student can learn. I am most interested in community classroom learning. I believe students get more out of such an experience. My dream is to empower young minds to live to their fullest potential, to set them free to develop as much as they choose. I consider it a great privilege to be allowed for a time to share the wonder and fascination of young people discovering the endless possibilities their lives hold for them.
